Advanced Diagnostics

With cutting edge technology, it is now possible to determine the underlying cause and severity of your varicose veins and spider veins. By offering complete and precise diagnosis, Vena can guide you though the treatment options.
Veins have one-way valves that open to move blood upward then close tightly to prevent blood from leaking backwards and pooling in the vein. This process is known as reflux. Left untreated, reflux only gets worse. If your ultra-sound shows you do not have reflux, then your vein problems are only a cosmetic concern. If you do have reflux, we will recommend a treatment plan to address your specific problems.

Treatments for Varicose Veins and Spider Veins

Prior to the development of state of the art laser treatment techniques, varicose vein disease was often treated through “stripping”. This painful, invasive and sometimes debilitating treatment took six or more weeks to recover from.
At Vena – The Varicose Vein Institute, we combine laser treatment for the larger veins with other state of the art treatments such as Microplebectomy and Sclerotherapy. These minimally invasive techniques provide our patients with the most effective varicose vein treatment available.

Laser Treatment for varicose veins

By delivering just the right frequency of laser energy, the precise area causing the reflux is targeted and the vein closes down. Your body automatically routes the blood to healthy veins. You see results immediately. From prep to pre-op, your varicose vein treatment takes just 45 minutes and most people return to work the next day!

Why Treat Varicose Veins?

Chances are you knew exactly what those enlarged and twisted veins were at first sight. But varicose veins are more than just a cosmetic concern. If left untreated, varicose veins often get worse over time and can cause serious and often irreversible problems:

Blood clots:

Varicose veins can develop blood clots and become red and painful. In extreme cases, a clot can travel to deeper veins and then to the heart and lungs, a situation which can than be life-threatening.

Uncontrollable leg swelling:

The combined pressure of the blocked varicose veins with swelling can be chronic and difficult to control.

Venous statis ulcers:

Varicose veins can cause open sores that can take months to heal and recur frequently. Infection in these lesions can result in the loss of a limb.

When you should worry:

If your legs suddenly swell, it may indicate deep vein thrombosis. If you find open sores, called venous statis ulcers, seek treatment immediately.

How is laser varicose vein treatment different from surgery?

Surgery is risky. It requires considerable preparation, general anesthesia, risk of infection, and a lengthy, painful recovery time, not to mention considerable expense. With laser treatment, the entry point for the laser is so small it doesn’t even require stitches. At Vena, treatment for varicose and spider veins is done on an out-patient basis. Laser treatment has extremely low risk for infection and is pain free.

What is the actual procedure like?

A local anesthetic is applied and the a thin laser fiber is inserted into the vein.A laser light and heat are emitted through the fiber. You may feel an unfamiliar sensation, but it is not painful. It takes about 45 minutes to perform. Avoid food or liquid for two hours before your procedure.

When will I see results?

You may experience some slight swelling right after the procedure, but you should see results immediately.

How long do the results last?

Laser treatment of varicose veins is 97% effective, so you shouldn’t worry about reoccurrence of veins that have been treated. Follow up procedures may be desired for cosmetic reasons.

Will my insurance cover my varicose vein or spider vein treatment?

If your varicose veins are a medical concern, most insurance will cover some or all of the procedure. Vena will work with your insurance to inform you of your coverage and provide your insurance company with necessary documents for pre-certification. Vena accepts all forms of insurance – including Medicare.
